    The claim process

We Make Your Nationwide Hail Claim Easy

A Denver hail damage insurance claim moves faster when the damage is documented properly the first time. Here is exactly what happens between the storm and the finished paintless dent repair, with no step hidden behind jargon.

    01

    Schedule Free Inspection

Bring the vehicle to our north Denver shop, or send photographs first. Every panel is read under reflection lighting so hail dents that are invisible in a parking lot are actually seen and counted.

    02

    Vehicle Damage Documentation

We photograph and map the damage panel by panel and impact by impact, recording dent counts by size band along with paint condition, aluminium panels and any cracked trim.

    03

    Estimate Submitted

A written paintless dent repair estimate is prepared in the format carriers expect and provided to you to submit with your claim, or shared directly with your adjuster if you ask us to.

    04

    Claim Review & Approval

Your adjuster reviews the file and issues a decision. If additional eligible damage appears once panels are lit or trim comes off, we document a supplement for your carrier's consideration.

    05

    Paintless Dent Repair

Technicians work each dent from behind the panel with rods and glue-pull tools, returning the metal to shape without sanding, filler or a spray booth anywhere in the process.

    06

    Final Quality Inspection

Every repaired panel is re-read under the reflection board from several angles before the vehicle is released, and we walk the finished work with you rather than simply handing over keys.

    Why paintless dent repair

The Smarter Way to Repair Hail Damage

Conventional hail repair sands the damage flat, fills it, and sprays new paint over the top. That works, and sometimes it is the only correct answer. But on the majority of Denver hail damage the paint is unbroken and only the shape of the metal has changed, which is a shape problem, not a paint problem.

Paintless dent repair addresses the shape and leaves the finish alone. Technicians reach behind the panel with rods and use glue-pull tools on the surface, easing the metal back to its original contour while the factory paint, primer and corrosion protection stay exactly where the manufacturer put them.

    • Keeps factory paint

The original, factory-applied finish stays on the vehicle instead of being sanded away.

    • Maintains resale value

No refinish work means no paint history to explain on an eligible panel at trade-in.

    • No fillers

The metal is returned to shape rather than levelled with body filler.

    • No repainting

No colour match, no blend into neighbouring panels, no orange-peel mismatch.

    • Faster turnaround

Skipping prep, paint and cure removes days from a typical hail repair.

    • Eco-friendly

No solvents, primers or clear coat, so a hail repair produces far less waste.

    • Insurance accepted

PDR is a standard, widely written repair method for hail damage estimates.

    Working with policyholders

Helping Nationwide Customers Get Back on the Road

Nationwide policyholders bring us the full range of Colorado hail damage, from a handful of dime-sized dents on a hood after a spring cell to full-vehicle damage from the golf-ball hail that periodically works its way across the eastern metro.

Both extremes get the same treatment: the vehicle is read under reflection lighting, the damage is written down, and the estimate reflects the vehicle rather than an average.

We document damage thoroughly. Every panel is lit and read, impacts are counted by size band, and the record is written down. Hail damage on a white or silver vehicle in flat Denver daylight is genuinely hard to see, and undocumented damage is damage that does not get repaired.

We communicate professionally. When you ask us to, we speak with your adjuster directly, provide our documentation, and submit supplements for additional eligible damage discovered once panels are properly exposed.

Customers have the right to choose their repair shop. Your carrier may suggest a facility; the decision remains yours as the vehicle owner, in Denver and anywhere else in Colorado.

    Read the full FAQ

No. In Colorado the decision about where your vehicle is repaired belongs to you as the vehicle owner, not to your insurance company. Carriers, including Nationwide, commonly maintain networks of shops they suggest, and those programmes exist largely to streamline estimating and billing. A recommendation is exactly that: a suggestion. You are free to have your hail damage repaired at any licensed facility you choose in Denver, Aurora, Lakewood, Thornton or anywhere else in the metro, and your claim is still handled under the same policy terms. What changes when you choose an independent paintless dent repair shop is who is doing the looking. A hail estimate written quickly in a drive-through claim lane will often miss impacts on horizontal panels, especially on light-coloured vehicles where dents disappear under flat daylight. We assess every panel under reflection lighting, count impacts by size band, and produce documentation that reflects what is actually on the car. If our findings differ from the original estimate, that difference is submitted to your adjuster as a supplement for their consideration.

Yes. Choosing your own repair facility is a standard right for vehicle owners, and it applies to hail damage repair just as it does to collision work. You can tell your adjuster which shop you intend to use at any point in the claim, including after an initial estimate has already been written. Nothing about that choice invalidates your claim or reduces your coverage. There are practical reasons Denver drivers pick a dedicated paintless dent repair specialist over a general body shop after a hail storm. A full-service collision shop is set up for structural repair, panel replacement and refinishing, and much of its hail work may be sublet to a PDR technician anyway. A specialist shop reads dents for a living. The other consideration is scale: after a significant Front Range storm, thousands of vehicles across Denver, Westminster, Arvada, Centennial and Littleton need attention at once, and general shops fill quickly with collision work that cannot be deferred.

Paintless dent repair does not remove or replace any factory component and does not disturb the factory paint on an eligible panel, so on qualifying hail damage it is a conservative repair choice rather than an aggressive one. The technician works the back of the panel to return the metal to its original shape; nothing is sanded, filled, primed or sprayed, and the corrosion protection applied at the factory stays intact. Two honest caveats belong here. First, access sometimes requires removing interior trim, a headliner, or a tail light, and that work must be done carefully and reassembled correctly. Second, a small number of manufacturers have their own guidance on aluminium panels or on vehicles with advanced driver-assistance sensors mounted behind a panel, and those cases deserve a conversation before work starts.

Hail is generally handled under comprehensive coverage, sometimes called other-than-collision coverage, rather than under collision coverage. If your policy includes comprehensive, hail damage is normally within scope. If you carry liability only, there is typically no coverage for damage to your own vehicle. Only your carrier can confirm what your policy covers, what your deductible is and how a claim will be handled, so that conversation belongs with Nationwide directly rather than with any repair shop. What we can tell you is what is on the vehicle. Colorado Dent Solutions inspects and documents the hail damage, produces a written paintless dent repair estimate, and provides it to you or, at your request, to your adjuster. Colorado hail claims also carry reporting windows set by the policy, so the safest move after a Denver-area storm is to report the damage promptly and get the vehicle inspected.

There is no single answer, because hail repair time is driven by dent count, dent size, panel location and access, not by the calendar. Light damage of a few dozen small dents concentrated on a hood and roof may be finished in a couple of days. A vehicle carrying several hundred impacts across every horizontal panel, with damage running into body lines and requiring headliner or trim removal for access, is a materially longer job and can run into a week or more. Aluminium panels take longer than steel because aluminium holds far less memory. After a major Front Range storm the whole metro seeks repair at once, so booking early genuinely shortens your wait.

Your deductible is set by your policy, and whether and how it applies to a hail claim is determined by your insurance carrier. Colorado Dent Solutions cannot tell you what your out-of-pocket cost will be, and we do not waive, absorb, discount or otherwise pay deductibles. Any Denver shop offering to make your deductible disappear is describing something you should be wary of, because misrepresenting the cost of a repair to a carrier is insurance fraud in Colorado and exposes the vehicle owner as well as the shop. What we can do is remove the uncertainty on the repair side: a clear written estimate of the paintless dent repair work your vehicle needs, so you can see exactly what the claim covers and what, if anything, falls outside it.

Often, yes, but size alone is not the deciding factor. What actually determines eligibility is whether the paint is intact, whether the metal has been stretched, and whether the back of the panel can be reached. A large, shallow, round dent from golf-ball-sized hail on an accessible hood is a very good paintless candidate even though it looks dramatic. A smaller impact that has cracked the clear coat, or one that sits hard on a body line where the metal is already worked and stiff, is a harder case and may finish as a substantial improvement rather than a complete removal. Our job at the inspection stage is to sort your vehicle honestly into those categories before any work is authorised.

Factory paint is applied and cured under conditions no repair shop can replicate, and buyers, dealers and appraisers know it. A refinished panel can be detected with a paint depth gauge in seconds, and on a resale or trade-in appraisal in the Denver market it commonly raises questions about what happened to the vehicle, even when the underlying damage was nothing more than cosmetic hail. That is the core commercial argument for paintless dent repair on eligible hail damage: the panel is returned to shape and the original finish, including its factory corrosion protection, is still the finish on the car.

That depends on your deductible and on how many impacts are actually there, which is exactly why the free inspection is worth doing before you decide. Damage that looks like a dozen dents in a parking lot regularly reads as sixty or more under a reflection board, and that changes the arithmetic. We will give you a written estimate and an honest count; whether to file is your decision, and coverage and deductible questions belong with your carrier. If you choose not to file, unrepaired hail damage stays repairable indefinitely as long as the paint surface has not been broken.
