Colorado has a substantial military and veteran community, which means a lot of hail-damaged vehicles in the metro are insured through USAA. Members often ask the same practical questions: how much documentation is needed, whether they can pick their own shop, and what happens when the damage turns out to be worse than the first estimate.

Colorado Dent Solutions is independent. We have no affiliation with or endorsement from USAA.

    Deployment, relocation and timing

One thing that comes up more with USAA members than most: timing around deployments and PCS moves. If a vehicle is going to be stored, transported or driven out of state, it is worth getting the damage documented and assessed before that happens rather than after.

Photographs taken here, with a date and location, are far more useful than an inspection somewhere else months later.

    Confirm coverage before you file

Hail is normally a comprehensive matter. Check your declarations page for comprehensive coverage and the deductible amount. If you carry a higher deductible and the damage is light, filing may produce no payment at all, which is covered in this guide.

    Documenting damage thoroughly

    • Daylight photographs, low angle, one panel at a time
    • The roof included, since it is usually the worst-hit and most forgotten panel
    • Wide shots from each corner of the vehicle
    • Storm date and where the vehicle was parked
    • Any glass, lamp or trim damage noted separately

Choosing how the repair is done

Where the paint is intact, paintless dent repair is normally the right method for hail, and it keeps the original factory finish on the vehicle. That matters for resale and for anyone who may sell or trade the car after a move.

Where hail has broken paint or torn metal, conventional repair is needed on those areas. An honest assessment separates the two clearly rather than promising everything can be done without paint.

    Supplements and scope changes

Once a vehicle is on the light board, damage counts often rise. Carriers handle this through their supplement process. Our job is to document what the panels genuinely require. Whether additional work is approved is a decision USAA makes, not us.

    Getting started locally

Our USAA hail claim page covers the Denver metro specifics, and the hail damage repair page explains the repair itself. If you would rather not lose a working day, ask about vehicle pickup and return when you request an assessment.

    Frequently asked questions

Yes. Selecting the shop that repairs your vehicle is your decision.

No. We are an independent Denver PDR shop with no carrier partnership or endorsement.

Tell us early. Documenting the damage properly before a move, and planning the repair window realistically, avoids complications later.

Keeping factory paint generally helps resale, because repainted panels are noted on inspection and detectable with paint depth gauges.
